For its tenth birthday Zagreb Film Festival gives its audience the largest number of free screenings so far. 


Every day at 6pm at the Zagreb Dance Centre, Ilica 10, the programme Spy Film: Celluloid Curtain – Europe’s Cold War in Film is scheduled. It presents European spy film from the bith sides of the Iron Curtain. At 8.30pm My First Film: Austria takes place, presenting the first film steps of renowned Austrian directors such as Michael Haneke, Ulrich Seidl, Jessica Hausner and others.

On Wednesday at 11am at the Zagreb Dance Centre, as part of the workshop Microschool International, we will have a chance to see the film Borrowed Time, British bittersweet comedy and after the screening the authors will be presented.

Every day at 10pm, Griè cinema in Jurišiæ Street, a free retrospective of the exciting Austrian filmmaker Michael Glawogger takes place, leading us on a journey across the unexplored regions of the world and genres.

On Thursday at Tuškanac cinema, Tuškanac 1, at 5pm, ZFF screens a selection of films from the most important short film festival in the world – Clermont-Ferrand.

Checkers, a selection of short films by young local filmmakers competing for the award, is scheduled for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at 11pm, Tuškanac cinema.

New school year beginning is marked with film for the last six year by ZFF’s programme Bib for Kids, taking place at Europa cinema, with reruns at the Museum of Contemporary Art.

On Thursday, 18 October at 3pm, at Dokukino KIC cinema, Restart and Zagreb Film Festival organise a master class led by the award-winning Danish editor Niels Pagh Andersen on the subject of Narration in Documentary Film – character formation, identifications and film magic. The same day before the lecture, beginning at 3pm, the documentary film Three Rooms of Melancholia (2004) by Finnish director Pirjo Honkasalo, edited by Anderson, will be screened.

On Tuesday, 16 October at 6pm at the Academy of Dramatic Art, we will see a selection from the International Film Schools Festival Rencontres Henri Langlois. Whether short, feature, documentary or live action, the festival selects the best school film from all over the world.
