This year's Checkers, the program presenting Croatian debutant short films, offers eleven selected pearls in which a great effort has been invested, explained the program selector Vladimir Gojun. When selecting the films, he particularly valued inventive directing, freshness and discourse. This approach of his resulted in a selection of probably the best short films Croatia can offer today.
The first set of Checkers films can be seen tonight at 11p.m. in Cinema Tuškanac, when the first four debutant short films selected by Vladimir Gojun will be shown.
amateurs, directed by Luka Èurèiæ, is the first film of the set. It is a silent love-erotic story about what is a beginning like when seen from the end, and the other way around: the end that we see as early as in the beginning.
Snow – a 26-minute film by Josip Žuvan, brings together a cast consisting of Trpimir Jurkiæ, Tihana Lazoviæ, Vedran Mlikota, Joško Ševo, Petra Težak, Mile Blaževiæ.
The script for Hani Domazet's short film Delivery was made as part of the Palunko Scriptwriters ' Workshop. The film takes place over a single afternoon. Lucija, a young student, enters the eternal triangle when she least expects it. ZFF is particularly proud on the fact that Andrija Gvozdiæ Michl festival video production manager edited this film and the festival photo and video archive coordinator Dinka Radoniæ was the director of photography.
The last of tonight's Checkers films, Craver Is Dead, takes place in Yugoslavia in the late 1980s. It was directed by Vanja Vascarac and the cast includes Janko Popoviæ Volariæ, Vilim Matula, Iva Mihaliæ, Asim Ugljen, Iva Babiæ.
