Aida Begiæ has already achieved acclaim with her 2008 film Snow. The film won the main prize in the Critics Week Program of Cannes Film Festival and numerous other awards throughout the world. We saw it on ZFF 2008, too.

This year we will show her second feature-length film, Children of Sarajevo. The film already won a special mention of the jury in Un Certain Regard Program of Cannes Film Festival. At Sarajevo Film Festival, Aida Begiæ received Cineuropa Award; the lead actress Marija Pikiæ won Heart of Sarajevo for Best Actress. Children of Sarajevo has recently been selected as Bosnian candidate for Oscar.

It is a story about Rahima (23) and Nedim (14), two orphans of the Bosnian war. They live in Sarajevo, in a society in transition that has lost its moral compass and is neglecting the children of the people who died while defending the city. After she took to crime in her youth, Rahima finds comfort in Islamic faith, hoping that her brother will follow her steps. Things get complicated when fighting breaks out in school, between Nedim and the son of a local big shot. The incident triggers a chain of events and Rahima finds out that her brother has been leading a double life…
